The International Atomic Energy Agency chief said on Friday that he had developed a “better understanding” with Iran on how to resolve a key sticking point in talks on an historic nuclear deal between Iran and the major powers, AFP reported.
“I believe that both sides have a better understanding on some ways forward, though more work will be needed,” Yukiya Amano said in a statement.
Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Reza Najafi has also said that Iran and the IAEA have reached an “common understanding” about time framework for continuing cooperation to resolve issues related to past nuclear activities by Iran.
Araqchi, a senior Iranian nuclear negotiator, called Amon’s visit “good and successful” and said Tehran is ready to cooperate with the IAEA to resolve questions on possible military dimensions (PMD).
Amano visited Tehran on Thursday and met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
Amano said that his trip also touched on the increased role the IAEA would have after the deal with world powers.
